GIOVANNI VOLPE

Giovanni Volpe was born in Barranquilla, Columbia in 1950. After moving to the United States, Volpe earned his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and remained at the universty to then earn his Master of Science in Engineering in 1974. Giovanni Volpe then continued his education as he renolled in the Taller de Artes Graficas in Caracas, Venezuela, from wich he graduated in 1984. He then pursued his artistic career from participating in several exhibitions throughout the country of Venezuela. Although Giovanni Volpe exhibited his artwork from 1985 to 1988, he entered a period of adaptation but has now continued his artistic career. He currently lives and works in Key Biscayne, Florida.
Giovanni Volpe's works tend to be mixed media on canvases. His paintings are abstract and avoid associations withe previous images and its minimalist nature seeks to explore the possibilities within the spaces. Volpe's work focuses on geometric shapes and color, leading the viewer to its visual experience. In many of his paintings, the color and composisition are insprired by nature. Colors from the sky and surrounding nature are reflected in his paintings as the world around him is interpreted through visual images. In the artist own words : "Ideas become shape and color... Shape and color become reality... That reality exploits in the expressive power of shapes and colors, offering the viewer a visual expereience, a chromatic magnetism. The reality, the simplicity and the minimalist environment of the paint explores the vast possibilites of the elements and the colors, avoiding associations with images and schemes of the past, wrapping the viewer with a sensation of clarity, actuality and presence to someting unknown".
